Victor Cruz caught 19 touchdowns in his last two seasons. That means he performed his salsa dance on 19 separate occasions. It looks like New York Giants fans will get to observe the spectacle of Victor Cruz’s salsa in a Giants uniform for at least another six years. Cruz initially signed a free agent tender worth $2.879 million this year while hoping for a long term deal. His desire for working out a long term deal was fulfilled when he signed a five year $46 million extension. This includes $15.6 million guaranteed in the next couple of seasons. So the contract is for six years, when combined with the free agent tender. I think this deal is perfect for both sides, the Giants and Cruz.

Victor Cruz’s agent said that his client didn’t receive offers from any other NFL team. Cruz always expressed his wish to stay in New York with the Giants. He wanted to maintain a close relationship to his humble roots in his hometown of Patterson, NJ. After signing the deal, he continuously said that it was enough money for him and his family for the rest of their lives. Meanwhile, staying with a championship contending team was important in his decision making process as well. In his breakout season of 2011, the Giants beat the Patriots in the Superbowl. In the last two years, he has erupted onto the stage in the Big Apple after going undrafted in 2010. He has become Eli Manning’s favorite target both short and long. Cruz has caught 168 receptions for 2,628 yards and the aforementioned 19 touchdowns in the last couple of seasons. These numbers have led the team ever since he began wearing a Giants uniform.

Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks have made a formidable duo in the last two seasons with the Giants. Nicks has 229 catches to go along with 3,424 yards and 25 touchdowns in his past four seasons with the G-Men. But, this next season is his last last remaining on the contract he signed as a rookie. He is set to make approximately $2.7 million next year. Cruz has actively shown his interest in attempting to persuade Nicks to re-sign with the Giants. Hopefully, the extension Cruz received from the Giants, almost $8 million a year, makes Nicks more confident and willing to re-sign with the team that drafted him in 2009. Nevertheless, I look for Victor Cruz to continue his immense impact on the NY Giants.
